We all have moments when we look at people and think to ourselves: “wow, what a successful person, I wish I could be like them, I wish I could have what they have”.
We start admiring the successes of others whilst just expecting things to fall in place for us in the same manner. We start to sit back and expect life to throw things at our feet because we believe we deserve them. While it is true that everyone deserves a happy and fulfilled life, it is nevertheless important to get up and start making things happen.
Indeed, these types of moments should serve us as motivators rather than jealousy feeders. For those who enjoy reading motivation posts, for those who gain desire for life from encouragement, I wanted to write a small article on how to achieve your goals and encourage you to keep moving forward.
I think that the most important thing to be successful in your goals, no matter how big or small they are is PRIORITIZING.
Once you know what your truly want for this day to bring you or where you would like to be in five years, ten years, you can start achieving those things by putting them first.
The trick is to truly stick to whatever you want. For instance, if you are in school and want to achieve good grades but half of the time you are watching Netflix or partying or doing anything else but studying you are ultimately preventing yourself from achieving that goal. Or if you always wanted to be fit and healthy yet you chose to eat junk and not exercise even if good food and exercising are options that are accessible to you.
These are just general examples and do not apply to everyone. What I am trying to get at is that you cannot be wanting something but not doing anything to achieve it. You have to start prioritizing what is truly meaningful and using your time to get to that point. Try to avoid small distractions and procrastination.
And really, there isn’t much you need to start doing this right now! Just get a simple agenda or planner or a notebook where you can jot down your appointments, your due dates, some notes, etc. This will help you get organized.
You can even just hang a calendar and write down your tasks for the day on it so that you can clearly see day by day what needs to be accomplished and how far you have already made it. I find it really helps you visualize your little daily successes and motivates you to do better on the next day.
You are the crafter of your own life. If you want to get good grades, prioritize that over other things. Start getting up an hour earlier to do some reading or review, start writing notes in class instead of scrolling through Facebook. If you always wanted to learn how to cook, sign up to a cooking class or get self-learning books about food instead of spending time on distractions. If you want to be part of a sports team but you do not think you could be good at it, I am telling you that you are capable of absolutely anything you set your mind on. Start training and go join that team. There is nothing that can beat a strong desire for something. Use that to desire to focus on your goal and set it as your priority.
Once you start making things that will truly give you a fulfilling life a matter of priority, you will reach your success. There is no such thing as “I do not have the time”. That is just a common sentence we throw around way too often to cover up for all those hours we spend doing things that do not bring us closer to our goals or desires.
Those two hours you would spend watching movies, use it to go to the gym instead. Those minutes wasted on social media, use them to read books and learn. The time you would throw away arguing with your close ones, use it to motivate them instead. Go volunteer, travel, cultivate friendships and family bonds. Spend fifteen minutes just meditating and being happy with yourself and what you have and how far you have come.
I truly believe that we are all so unique and talented and cultivated in different fields and I find it important to keep igniting a desire for people to be better and do well for themselves and others alike.
If you are reading this, I believe in you. You are capable of living your dream and being successful. You deserve it.
As once said an unknown source:
No decision will pay off more than prioritizing your life and giving extreme focus and energy to the things with the highest return.
