A small guide to food

As a food addict, I have been very interested by all subjects food-related. I love watching videos that display healthy food ideas and educational information regarding nutrition. Therefore, I thought I would share some bits regarding what I like to eat and some ideas for meals or healthy snacks.

In the morning, the first thing I do to start my day is drink as soon as I get out of bed. This starts the metabolism and also provides some sort of nutrition while I do my morning routine before having breakfast. I either have a glass of water with a fresh lemon slice or a glass of juice. Another nice thing to have can be a cup of warm green tea. Regarding juices, I do think that they can be quite concentrated in sugars. Therefore I always try to look for the fresh juice section in the supermarket and I pick flavors such as carrot, pomegranate and grapefruit. Again, not everyone likes these types of flavours hence its nice to try out different ones and see what works for you. I personally absolutely love the bitter taste of pomegranate juice. I also do a half-half combo where I put half a glass of juice and dilute it with half a glass of water to make it less concentrated.

Then, for breakfast I have two main go-to meals. I either have a toast with a boiled egg and a bowl of fruits covered with chia seeds or I make myself some oatmeal that I top with nuts and fruits. Both of these are really easy to make. Also, I find that adding in some small details like seeds and nuts helps to get some more vitamins, fiber and minerals into the diet. I usually buy almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and chia seeds and add a mix of any of these to my food.

For lunch I like to have a massive salad. I literally put everything in there. My typical salad contains cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, some kind of leaves like spinach leaves or lettuce leaves, chia seeds, walnuts, dried cranberries and sometimes I add in some protein by adding chicken pieces or an egg. Instead of sauce I just use either grape seed oil or coconut oil in my salad. Other ideas for lunches are steamed vegetables like broccoli and carrots with a piece of fish.

Since I eat several snacks during the day and I eat small portions on a regular basis, during diner time I usually just have a bowl of hot soup.

For snack ideas I can recommend having a banana with almond butter because it is very delicious. Moreover, I love having mini carrots with hummus. Other good snacks can include fruit salads, an avocado, yogurt with berries.

It takes some time and consistency to convert to a healthier diet and what helps is getting rid of everything that is not good for you from your kitchen space. Getting rid of packaged foods like candy, sweets, frozen meals and replacing them with fresh fruits, vegetables and good meat, etc. is a good start. It forces you to access to fresh products when you are hungry instead of going for that frozen pizza that you think your body wants in a moment of hunger. Moreover, you will feel more positive just by seeing the clean space and fresh products in your kitchen.

Also, preparing meals in advance is very practical because it helps you save time during the week and also makes you have access to good meals when you are hungry.

There are so many different aspects and opinions regarding diet. Of course, the way a person eats depends greatly on external factors too such as the influence of how others around eat (family members and friends), habits, taste preferences, monetary aspects, time constraints and also the amount of desire they have to convert to a healthier food menu.

The important is that you find what makes you comfortable and what makes you healthy. You can get inspired through several different people and shape your own food menu. There are so many possibilities to get creative and also stay somewhat healthy too. The most important is to enjoy the process and get into the habit of putting good foods into your body. It will help with feeling less tired and also with so many other things like having good hair and clear skin.
